I’d have installed a copy of this software on a hosted virtual private server, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to get the cameras to communicate with the server. I can get it working no problem on a local machine. What ports should I forward on my local network? Or would I be better off with a VPN between the camera network and the server? Thanks.
The server needs to access the RTSP ports on each camera. You can forward those ports to different external ports if you need -
Camera 1 internal 554 external 5554
Camera 2 internal 554 external 5555
etc
or, the easiest way would be to setup a VPN (Pritunl or something easy to setup) on the side with the cameras and connect to that with the VPS.
